People are eating out more now than ever before. Whether you’re strapped for time, don’t know how to cook, or just want to indulge, Upland, California, is chock-full of culinary cuisines just waiting to take your tastebuds on an adventure.
Of all the restaurants I’ve tried in Upland, there are three that I go back to time and time again. If you’d like to hear about why I think these restaurants are so great, keep reading. (And if you give any of them a try, let me know what you think!)
Spaggi’s
Spaggi’s has been open for 17 years and is the most delicious Italian fare you’ll ever put in your mouth. Spaggi’s is owned and operated by a lovely husband and wife duo, Ana and Henry Gonzalez. Chef Henry’s ability to prepare a culinary experience is second to none. His love of food and people is evident in everything he does.
Spaggi’s motto is “Food should be like people…good from the inside out,” and that couldn’t be more true. The quality of the food is superb and the presentation is almost too good to eat. Some of my favorite dishes include the Beef Wellington, fettucini alfredo, and the chocolate soufflé. Their wine list is top-notch as well.
If you want an elegant place for date nights, holiday gatherings, or to celebrate anniversaries, give Spaggi’s a try. You won’t be disappointed.
Kishi Japanese Restaurant
Another go-to place for date nights and birthday celebrations, Kishi Japanese Restaurant is a teppanyaki-style restaurant where they cook your food fresh in front of you. My wife and I enjoy taking our daughters here because they’re always in awe of the great performance put on by the chefs. There is also a sushi bar and regular dining options if you don’t have time to sit at the teppan grills.
It’s easy to see why Kishi has been in business for over 30 years. The food is divine and the portions are huge (you’ll never leave hungry). Everything from the steak dinner to the sushi rolls is nothing short of amazing. The service is exceptional and the chefs who prepare your food are always funny and personable. If they know you’re there for a special occasion (or it’s your first visit), they’ll do their best to make the experience extra memorable.
Molly’s Souper
Want to feel like you’re having breakfast at home without having to wash dishes afterward? Head to Molly’s Souper, a breakfast joint open 7 days a week. Molly’s Souper is a sweet little cottage turned restaurant, and with plenty of seating both inside and out, it’s the perfect place to relax and hang out for a while.
If you want to bring your pooch to breakfast, Molly’s Souper even has their very own doggie menu featuring “Bugsy’s Chicken Catch a Cat-tori” (chicken, eggs, and cheese) and “Kira’s Beef Tartar” (a ground-beef patty). And if your children love tea parties, they even have adorable little tea sets for kids, complete with animal crackers and apple juice. It’s truly a place for the whole family (furry children included).
Molly’s Souper is located in what used to be one of the most significant landmarks in Upland—the Stewart home. In the late 1800s, the home was built by William Boyd Stewart and his wife, Mary. The two founded the Stewart Citrus Association, where they shipped fruit all across the United States. Fast forward to today, the owner, Molly Brouse, is dedicated to preserving the old-school charm of the Stewart home by serving up delicious home-cooked meals.
